- Helmet – Buy a good quality helmet, one which fits and buckles snug. A tinted scratch proof visor or good sunglasses keeps bugs, dirt and dust out of your eyes. Most helmets sold in Asia are not DOT registered or any other form of official standards so its better if you can to bring your own. The ones that are can be incredibly expensive.
- Riding Jacket & Pants- Waterproof, built in guards and protection is better. A rain poncho is just useless.
- Riding Gloves – Full gloves made with breathable material. Knuckle protection a plus. Also will stop sun burning your hands.
- Riding Boots – Provide better surface grip and comfort, ankle protection a must. Don´t ride in Flip Flops. Feet are the first body part to hit the ground in an accident.
- Saddlebags – Makes for easier access to camera and First aid Kit.
- Tool Kit – Small Flathead screwdriver, adjustable torque wrench. But garages will lend you tools or do repairs fast and cheaply.
- Gaffer Tape – Quick fix for anything hanging loose.
- Fuel Can or Tube to Syphon Fuel – Some of the national parks routes are massive and there is NOTHING.
- First Aid Kit – Essential.
- Cell Phone *Motorbike resistant mount case for phone. Download Maps.me it´s a navigation app you can use off line. Buy a local sim card.
- Face Mask – Bandana or mask. There is a reason why the locals all ride wearing them.
- Bungie Cords – For strapping your bag to your bike tightly so theres no movement.
- Waterproof travel bag or backpack with waterproof bag cover, mainly to keep the dirt out of your bag.
- Spare Sock – keeps your feet dry from seat and provides comfort. A couple good pairs of hiking socks will do the trick.
- Flash Light – Your headlight won´t work you can tape it to your bike, wave down a passing vehicle, look for smokes in your bag in the pitch black.
Flashlights, bungie cords, plastic bags for bag cover, flathead screwdrivers and tubing are all items easily found in most markets in Vietnam. You can also find ´Factory outlet´ North Face jackets and pants everyplace, a jacket costs is $20-$25.
