Things to do in Dalat:

The third villa of the last emperor/ king of Vietnam Boa Dai,  Dao Dai’s Summer Palace built in 1933 – 1938 in the art deco style and lies in the middle of a pine forest. Used originally as just at a summer getaway home it then became a place where the King would host formal ceremonies to warmly welcome foreign politicians and important government officials. The lower floor consisting of the office room, the guest room and the reception room, then upstairs is the living space of the king and his family. Its stylish tonal rooms are almost frozen in time apart from one strange room which has two grand gold thrones. Your encourage to adorn traditional garments that are similar to those worn of historic royalty and sit on the majestic thrones have your  portrait taken for a price.

The Hang Nga guesthouse, also known as the “Crazy House,” has been turned into a kind of disney land attraction. Designed by Vietnamese architect and impressionist Dang Viet Nga was started in 1990 and construction is on going. Its a weird combination of Cave like dwellings that have rooms your able to stay in. Inspired by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí the building’s design is extremely whimsical, full of fair tale garden features and sculptures, steps and raised floating bridges/ paths that wind about in circles though out the building. Ridiculed by local authorities for many years it is funded by private investors and family. Now it has earned notoriety as a must see or stay guest house in Dalat and In 2009 the building was listed by the Chinese People’s Dailies s one of the world’s ten most “bizarre” buildings. Single room costs $34-$47/night while double room’s price ranges from $47-$84/night.

Lam Ty Ni Pagoda sits onto of a small hill north west of the city center. Completed in 1940 its a modest but charming building designed with East Asia, simplicity and harmony. Transformed by the pagodas solitary inhabitant buddhist monk Thay Vien Thuc who has resided here as the highest superior since 1964 and Buddhism’s Managing Council of Lam Dong province has its office here.
