Vin Moc Tunnels

The Vin Moc Tunnels are not for the claustrophobic. Located on the boarder of South and North Vietnam close to the ocean they where built to shelter people between 1968 -1972. In 1954 villages along the north of the demilitarized zone where under attack as the North used this  location specifically for weapons and supply transportation. It was bombed heavily by the South Vietnamese and then later by the United states air force during the the Vietnam war.

The tunnel complexes originally where 10 meters in depth but then as weapons advanced to reach lower depths so did the tunnels to avoid their bombardment. Whole families, approximately 60 in total lived there, hospital areas, kitchens and military areas all where located in a warren of small tunnels and dug out make shift rooms.

A small museum shows black and white photos of life in the tunnels, guides sneak up on you to offer you torch lit tours though out the next work system for a small donation.

Not all the tunnels are lit or with working lights but it makes it more off an adventure to go with a local guide.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA There are strange mannequin inside to depict how life was carried out with in the tiny confines, which add a creepy eerie horror story mood to the whole exploration.

Outside of the tunnels head down to the beautiful beach wall and onto the beach.
